An Airbnb early check-in request is a scheduling question: can you prepare and inspect the home before the guest wants to enter? Decide from the property's actual readiness, then confirm an exact time. A friendly “we will try” should not sound like approval.
This guide gives hosts a simple decision process and three messages for accepting, declining, or holding a request. Guests can also use the same approach: ask early, explain the expected arrival, and wait for the host's confirmation.
Check these five things before saying yes
- Previous checkout: confirm when the departing guest will leave.
- Turnover: ask the cleaner whether the requested time is realistic, including laundry and restocking.
- Inspection: leave time to check the finished property and fix missed details.
- Access: verify that the reservation's code or handoff can work at the earlier time.
- Shared entrances: check building access, parking, and any arrangements outside your control.
An empty calendar is not proof that the home is ready. Maintenance, a deep clean, or a delayed linen delivery may still block the earlier arrival. Use your turnover checklist as the readiness check.

Hi [first name], we can confirm early check-in from [time] on [date]. The home will be ready for you then. Your access details are [private location/delivery method], and the code will work from [time]. Please let us know if your arrival plans change. We look forward to welcoming you.
Use a date as well as a time, especially when someone mentions a flight arriving just after midnight. Make sure the guest and cleaner receive the same confirmed arrangement.
Message template: still waiting for readiness
Hi [first name], thanks for asking. Our normal check-in is [time]. I cannot confirm an earlier arrival yet because we need to finish preparing the home. I will update you by [realistic time]. Until I confirm otherwise, please plan for [normal time].
Choose an update time you can meet. Do not keep a guest waiting outside while you repeatedly postpone a decision. If you cannot offer useful certainty, say so and provide an alternative plan.
Message template: early check-in unavailable
Hi [first name], we cannot offer early check-in for this reservation. The home will be ready from [time]. If helpful, [verified nearby option] is an option while you wait. [Luggage arrangement, only if explicitly available.] Thank you for understanding.
Separate luggage drop-off from access to the home
A guest may only need somewhere to leave bags. If you can offer storage safely, explain the time window, exact location, and collection process. Confirm whether the home itself remains unavailable until check-in.

The listing, arrival instructions, and scheduled messages should show the usual check-in time. Send any approved exception clearly in the booking conversation. Update the lock's activation time too; changing a message without changing access can leave guests locked out.

Is early check-in guaranteed by self check-in?
No. A keypad is an entry method, not permission to arrive before the agreed time. Confirm the exception with the host and follow the reservation's actual access instructions.
