A good Airbnb review request thanks the guest and invites an honest account of the stay. It should not prescribe a star rating, offer a reward, or make someone feel responsible for protecting your business.
Keep the message short and relevant to the completed reservation. The guest has already travelled, packed, and checked out; another long explanation is unlikely to help. These templates focus specifically on review requests rather than the full guest-message sequence.
A simple review request you can copy
Hi [first name], thank you for staying at [property]. We hope your onward journey went smoothly. If you have a moment, please share an honest review of your stay through Airbnb. Your experience helps future guests decide whether the home is right for them. Thank you again for visiting.
Personalise one detail only if it is true and appropriate. Do not invent a warm connection or mention sensitive information from the guest's trip. A straightforward thank-you sounds more natural than an elaborate message about an ordinary stay.
When should you send it?
Send the request after the stay has ended, at a sensible time for your communication routine. Airbnb's review guidance states that hosts and booking guests have 14 days after checkout to review a home stay. Reviews appear when both sides submit or that period ends.
A single request is a reasonable starting point. If your automation already sends one, avoid adding an identical manual message. Stop reminders when the guest has reviewed, the window has closed, or the guest asks you to stop.
A shorter reminder template
Hi [first name], a brief reminder that you can leave an honest review of your stay at [property] through Airbnb while the review window is open. Thank you for taking the time if you choose to do so.
Use a reminder only when it adds something useful. Repeated countdowns and urgent messages can turn a voluntary request into pressure. Check the reservation's actual review availability rather than guessing from a template's date.
What to leave out
- A requested number of stars or a prewritten positive review.
- Discounts, gifts, refunds, or future benefits in exchange for feedback.
- A promise to leave a positive review if the guest does the same.
- Claims that the guest owes you a favourable rating because you helped them.
- Instructions to post publicly only if satisfied and keep criticism private.
- Threats involving a claim, refund, or other action.
Airbnb's Reviews Policy prohibits manipulation, incentivisation, and pressure, including exchanges of something valuable for a review. Keep your request neutral and allow guests to describe their own experience.
If a problem happened during the stay
Resolve the issue on its own merits. A repair, replacement, or appropriate remedy should not depend on whether the guest promises to review positively. Avoid attaching a review request to an unresolved compensation conversation.
Thank you for letting us know about [issue]. We have [accurate action or current update]. [Next step, if one remains.] We appreciate the chance to address it.
This is an issue-response message, not a review request. Our complaint-response guide covers the follow-up process in more detail.
Review your automation as one sequence
Read the checkout, thank-you, and review messages together. Remove duplicate requests and stop telling departing guests information they no longer need. The guest-message templates provide a wider framework for those stages.
Can a better message guarantee more reviews?
No. A clear request makes the task understandable, but guests choose whether to respond and what to say. Use feedback to improve the property and instructions rather than trying to control the rating.
Give guests clear information throughout the stay. The Check-in Guide brings your home's practical details into one welcome book.
